Marriage, Mission, and the Call of God
One of the greatest mistakes a believer can make is allowing any relationship to take the place of their commitment to God. Marriage is a gift from God, but it was never intended to compete with His purpose. The right spouse will not pull you away from your calling, but will encourage, strengthen, and support your pursuit of it.
When you are married you can’t think like a single person.
Before choosing someone to spend your life with, ask whether they share your passion for the things of God. Attraction may begin a relationship, but shared purpose sustains it. A person’s appearance, personality, or accomplishments may capture your attention, but those things alone cannot carry a marriage through the challenges and sacrifices that life will inevitably bring. It is important to find someone whose values, priorities, and vision are aligned with God’s plan. Find someone who sees the mission, values the assignment, and is willing to build alongside you rather than become a distraction from it. The right person will not merely celebrate your calling from a distance; they will actively support it, pray for it, and make sacrifices when necessary to help fulfill it.
Stronger Together in God’s Assignment.
God’s purpose for your life should remain the priority. When two people are committed to Him first, they are far better equipped to be committed to each other. The strongest marriages are not built around personal happiness alone, but around a shared desire to fulfill the will of God together. When a husband and wife are moving in the same spiritual direction, they create an environment where faith can flourish, challenges can be overcome, and future generations can be impacted. A marriage centered on God’s purpose becomes more than a relationship—it becomes a partnership in ministry, a testimony to others, and a vehicle through which God’s kingdom can be advanced. Rather than competing with God’s plan, a healthy marriage should strengthen and accelerate it.
